Forces & Friction Force

We are learning about Forces and looking at what forces can do.

Three things forces can do is:

  • Forces can change the speed of an object.
  • Forces can change the direction an object is moving in.
  •  Forces can change the size or shape of an object.
Effects of a force and friction force.

Prophet Yusuf A.S

PROPHET YUSUF ALAYHI SALAAM

We all go through a difficult phase at least once in our life time, whether it's for a job, marriage, financial constraint, loss of a loved one and so on.

Story of Prophet Yusuf A.S. has taught me a lot of things about life. A lot of challenges will come in our lives, how we face and tackle it, how patient we are with what Allah azza wa jal has decreed for us is what determines our Imaan (faith) in Allah (swt.

This story has always been a source of comfort for me. It doesn't only teach us about sibling rivalry or jealousy, it also teaches us how we have to be patient with the decree of Allah, only He (swt) knows the unseen and our future.

To teach my children about this story in a friendly manner, I created pictures and we stuck this up on as a poster, while doing this, we talked about each incident Prophet Yusuf A.S. went through from the dream he saw and how Allah (swt) fulfilled his dream. We also watched story of Prophet Yusuf A.S. from YouTube.

I then created a coloring book for the children with some activity for them. Available as an e-book. Contact me if you are interested in getting one.

Here is a sneak peak at how the book pages look like.

99 Names of Allah

99 Names of Allah Craft

My boys have started memorizing the names of Allah Alhamdulillah.

I wanted to make this interesting for them. While browsing through some of the blogs I follow, I saw this idea of the craft tree of 99 names of Allah from Karima's Crafts.

This was so inspiring MashaAllah, so I decided to do the same for my boys.

What we are doing is after memorizing each name, we will paste the leaf on the tree as below. This way, slowly the tree will be full of 99 leaves In sha Allah.

Of course, credit goes to Karima's Craft for making the templates available on her site.

You can download the printables by clicking her link, which contains the steps of the craft work.

I used white A3 manilla sheet for the background.
Cut a box in the shape of bark of a tree and painted it brown.

Gave a rough green paint on the leaves..

And this is how our tree is shaping up, Alhamdulillah

Good Deeds Tree

"This is my car", "no it's mine"...do you experience the same? Or if you ask one of your child to bring you a glass of water he/she is like "aah mummy am so tired..please tell so and so? and if you tell so and so he goes like "am tired too mum?" This was the story at home.

Do you experience the same at home? Why not try your hands on Good Deeds Tree?

I stumbled on this while going through one of the homeschooling blogs. I can't remember which one, but I really appreciate the effort of the sister and may Allah bless her and all the other homeschooling parents. Ameen.

I am sure this won't happen after you try a good deeds tree. Alhamdulillah, my boys now rush to complete a task given to them so that they can earn a good deed leaf and Alhamdulillah I have noticed a big of change in them, be it behaviour or when it comes to sharing their things with each other. MashAllah.

Of course later on you can then concentrate on giving them leaves for more better deeds than fetching you a glass of water, like when they do their salaah on time, or complete their homework on specific time limit.

I just made mine with a simple brown paper that we use for covering books, cut it in the shape of a tree and pasted it on manilla card and this is how it looked like.

I pasted a little envelope which contains the leaves. This makes it easier for other family members to award them while I am not around.

And in a few minutes it started bearing leaves Alhamdulillah!

Craft

Paper Mache Masjid (mosque)

It is time for some craft work for my children.

My boys wanted to know what paper mache is and how it is done.
To show them what it exactly is we decided to make a paper mache masjid.

While working on this project, we at the same time discussed the etiquettes of a mosque and what you find in it.

What you will need:
Recycled Box - we used the milk carton
Cut out strips of newspaper,
Plastic bowl as a mould for the dome,
Paint (colour as you desire). We used off white and blue
Glue. (I made the glue using 2 cups flour and 1 cup water, added a bit of salt. Salt prevents the build up mildew).

STEPS

We first cut out a shape from a milk carton as below, and decided the position of the minaret.
The boys then started sticking the paper strips. This was the fun part for them. We used 3 layers of strips to make it sturdy.
For the dome. we used a plastic bowl as the mould. I covered the bowl with cellophene for easy removal. We left this to dry for 24 hours.

Our masjid started showing shape, Alhamdulillah.
The next step was painting, which they loved a lot. We painted the masjid off white and the dome blue.

This is how it looked after the paint. Alhamdulillah, being our first attempt on paper mache, we were really proud of our project.

With all this, the boys also learnt about recycling the items.

We also made the wudhu section, we cut out a simple box and left it plain to give it the feel.
We made the wudhu stools out of toothpaste caps and covered it with white masking tape.
I assisted the boys in working on the mimbar,  and printed out some patterns of tiles, clocks, and shelves from google. We also used a chopstick as our pillar. Our final product Alhamdulillah as below (smile).

Though not so perfect, but being the first time on paper mache we were very proud of the outcome.

We also learnt the dua of entering and leaving the mosque.

Coming soon - lap book on inside a mosque for the boys to pen down what they have learnt.

History

Ancient Rome

This was my son Adnan's chool history project. It is all about Ancient Rome.

We decided to put it as a lap book to present it as it looks interesting and appealing.

Since this is my first time to blog, please excuse the pictures as they look quite blurred.

Obviously before I move on further, credit goes to Iman's Homeschool, where we found most of the templates and some other templates were done by ourselves.

This is how the front cover looked like.

We then looked at the Legend of Rome, The parts of a Roman Soldier, Why was there a Roman Army, Training as below.

The military weapons used, Army structure, we looked at the reasons which made the soldiers so organised, and importance of animal skin.
We then looked at the Roman life style, clothing, food, Gods and Goddesses. These templates are found at Iman's homeschool.

We further looked at famous Romans, their buildings and architecture, and what they have taught us.
